Board of Director’s Meeting

September 10, 2007

 

CALL TO ORDER:  President Steve Sulzby called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm.  Members present were:  Steve Sulzby, John Killian, Carol Murakoshi, Donna Wenberg, Frank Bartlett, Sue Fardette, Irma Johnson, and Mark Tang.Guest Attendee:  Alan Flower. Excused were:  Diane Sachs and Jan Wagner.  Absent members were:  Barbara Balowitz, and Merlin Hansen.

 

MINUTES:  The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Donna Wenberg reported that the current total assets as of August 31, 2007 was $6,513.22 that reflected a positive change of $93.27 compared to last year at this time.  The net income in August 2007 was $91.62.  The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

 

CHARITY/HOSPITALITY:    Donna reported that a sum of $20.68 was collected from both book and charity boxes.  No cards were sent during this period.

 

SANCTIONS/EDUCATION/AWARDS:   No reports.

 

 REFRESHMENTS:    Volunteer coordinators for the November 18th Unit Game’s Luncheon are Steve Sulzby and Mark Tang.  September, October, and December coordinators have already been reported in the August minutes.

 

IN COORDINATOR:  The board thanked Frank Bartlett for substituting for Mark Tang at the Tuesday pm lecture/lessons for the IN players.  Mark will resume his responsibilities beginning this week.

 

PUBLICITY:    Sue Fardette wrote a press release for the $4,000.00 grant that will be given to the Long Beach Women’s Shelter from ACBL-District 23.  She read the release to the board members and it was approved with a few minor corrections.  Sue will send the release to the Long Beach Press Telegram, The News Enterprise in Los Alamitos, The Event News in Cypress, and the Seal Beach Gazette. After the board receives the grant, Sue will submit a photo of Steve Sulzby accepting the award from ACBL Director Rand Pinsky to the newspapers.  Alan Flower has a contact at the LB Press Telegram who can help Sue if necessary.

 

ROSTER:   Steve will remind Jan Wagner to post the Roster Sheets for members to peruse and make additions or corrections.

 

MEMBERSHIP:   Irma Johnson reported the latest In & Out  Stats from ACBL for the period 7-31-07 through 9-1-07.

There were four new members, two transfers in and one transfer out.  There was one relevant change of status:  Carmen Gross became a Life Master.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  John Killian reported that The Recreation Park Banquet room would be too costly to rent for the Sectional.  The Guest House Motel is another option and costs approximately $285.00 to rent per day.  John will look into this matter and report back at the next meeting.  Snacks/Refreshments for the Sectional will be discussed next month.  

 

NEW BUSINESS:   Nominations for 2008 Board members will be made in the last two weeks of September.  John Killian will post sign-up sheets for nominations at the Bridge Center and at Leisure World.  The nominations will be closed on October 15th. 

 

ADJOURNMENT:   Sue Fardette moved to adjourn the meeting.  Mark Tang seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:37 pm.  The next monthly meeting will be on Monday, October 8, 2007.
