Board of Directorís Meeting

October 27, 2008



CALL TO ORDER:  President Steve Sulzby called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm. Members present were: Steve Sulzby, John Killian, Donna Wenberg, Sue Fardette, Irma Johnson, Diane Sachs, Sharon Beran, Kevin Lane,Judy Carder, Louise Sperr, Fern Dunbar and Mark Tang.Absent was Frank Barlett.


MINUTES:  Kevin made a motion to accept the minutes and Sue second it.The minutes were accepted.


TREASURERíS REPORT: Balance is $ 5,422.50 as of September 30th.There was a net loss of $ 457.62 for the month.A discussion followed on the income from the unit games.The free games and the higher cost of food, rental and directors have eliminated most of the profit.It was decided to continue the discussion at the next meeting.


CORRESPONDENCE:Sharon sent cards out for Flora Mead who passed away and Stan Tseng who had surgery.


HOSPITALITY:  $48.15 was donated.


SANCTIONS:  Irma reported that sanctions are done through December.


REFRESHMENTS: Earl and Carol will be in charge of the food for the Nov. 16thunit game.Diane and Fern will be in charge of the food for the December 7th unit game.


IN COORDINATOR: Steve Sulzby reported that he has had substitutes for a few weeks and last week attendance was small.


SECTIONAL:Room D down the hall has been rented for the sectional. Caddies have been hired.The total cost of advertising for the sectional has not been calculated yet.John will take care ofnecessary rentals and the insurance.†† Last year there were 275 tables and a substantial profit.It was decided to have free plays drawn by a raffle for people who bring in food.The food committee will determine the logistics of this.

There were six new members and one transfer in this month, to whom I
shall send welcoming letters. There was one transfer out (Marshall
Pelle, who transferred to the Anaheim Unit. Marshall knew nothing about this and he will try to return to being a permanent member of our unit.
The only relevant change of status was Kevin Lane, who made Life Master.†††††††††††††††††† .

AWARDS:†† Steve is putting the finishing touches on the address labels for the winners in the sectional.


PUBLICITY:Sue will try and get a new release about the Sectional in the local papers.


NEW BUSINESS:  ALACBU has passed a motion to charge the unit $ 3.00 compared to $ 2.00 which has been the charge in the past.It was the sentiment of the board that the timing of raising the cost at the same time that the printed Bridge News will be eliminated after December was bad. The Bridge News will be available on-line. John explained that the regionals are not bringing in the profit they used to and they are looking for ways to make up for the shortfall.Irma suggested that the unit web sites could also be used for news.
