Director’s Meeting
August 20,
2007
CALL
TO ORDER: President
Steve Sulzby called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm. Members present were: Steve Sulzby, John Killian, Carol Murakoshi,
Donna Wenberg, Frank Bartlett, Sue Fardette,
Irma Johnson, Diane Sachs and Jan Wagner. Excused were:
Barbara Balowitz, Merlin Hansen and Mark Tang.
MINUTES: The minutes of the last meeting were
approved as read.
TREASURER’S
REPORT: Donna Wenberg reported that the current total
assets as of July 31, 2007 was $6,421.60 that reflected a positive change of
$291.10 compared to last year at this time.
The net income in July 2007 was $197.30.
The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
CHARITY/HOSPITALITY: Carol Murakoshi reported that a sum of
$35.80 was collected from both book and charity boxes. Barbara sent
Get Well cards to Betty Jackson and Sherry Royce. Sam Abramson is not
feeling well and a card will be sent to him.
Barbara will send a birthday card to Jan Mann for her 70th
birthday. Steve Sulzby reported that the
ACBL donations to the Long Beach Women’s Shelter will be announced in the local Long Beach newspapers.
Publicity Chair, Sue Fardette will contact the newspapers.
SANCTIONS: Irma Johnson reported that the final sanctions
for the unit games have been completed:
October 14, 2007, November 18, 2007 and December 9, which is our annual
Charity/Holiday game.
REFRESHMENTS: Earl Van De Vord was the chef for the
August 19th unit game with Carol Murakoshi assisting. Members raved over his delicious
Spaghetti. Frank Bartlett and John
Killian volunteered to coordinate the luncheon in September. Barbara Balowitz and Sue Fardette will take
care of October. The December
Charity/Holiday luncheon will be catered and coordinated by Carol Murakoshi and
Diane Sachs. We will need volunteers for
November.
EDUCATION/PUBLICITY/AWARDS: No reports.
IN
COORDINATOR: Frank
Bartlett reported that Tuesday lectures were coming along. Steve Sulzby will substitute for Mark on
August 21st.
MEMBERSHIP: Irma Johnson reported the latest In
& Out stats from ACBL for the period 6-30-07 through 8-1-07.

There were three new members, one
transfer in and two transfers out. New members will receive welcome letters
from Irma. The two relevant changes of status were: Cory Hand made Life Master
and Bronze Life Master at the same time, and Irma Johnson made Gold Life
Master.
ROSTER: Jan Wagner reported that ACBL lists
would be posted at the Bridge Center in a week.
Spaces will be provided for members to make additions or corrections
before the roster is printed. The
corrected information will be reported to ACBL.
No points will be listed in the
roster.
OLD
BUSINESS: Re: The
November Sectional: John Killian
reported that an overflow room has not been selected as yet. John will continue to research possibilities
in the vicinity. The Intramurals at the
Beverly Hills and Anaheim Bridge Centers have been canceled due to lack of interest.
NEW
BUSINESS: Diane Sachs suggested
that the Unit provide a birthday cake every month for all the celebrants. After a discussion, the Board concluded that
it would be too much of a hassle.
ADJOURNMENT: Diane Sachs moved to adjourn the meeting. Sue Fardette seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 6:49 pm. The next monthly meeting will be on Monday,
September 10, 2007.
