UNIT GAME - Sunday, October 22

OCTOBER UNIT GAME: After the special Swiss Team Unit game last month (Yes, I know I had the wrong month in the headline) we return to our usual format at the Unit Game on Oct. 22. Same times as usual. Try to come out for the Unit Game.

AUGUST UNIT GAME RESULTS: The August Unit Game had twenty-one tables in two sections. Results were: 1st, Phyllis Parker & Bob Mault; 2nd, Corey Hand & Donna Wenberg; 3rd, John & Suzie Hand; 4th , Marcus Evans & Judith Jones; 5th, John Melis & Cayce Blanchard and 6th, Keith & Susan Hafen. Merlin Hansen and Morris Lorber were the hosts of record.

NEW STATUS & NEW MEMBERS: Bill Collins is our newest member along with Linda Carder, Mike Gleeson and Sudershan Sood. A warm “Welcome” to each of you! Newest Junior Masters are Julia Ann Cunningham and Kris Williamson. Andrea Blaser is our newest Regional Master. Sandy Benard and Chuck Messall have reached the NABC Masters status. Jean Matz is now a Silver Life Master. And drum roll please. Lavonne McQuilken is our newest Life Master. Congratulations! Editor’s note: Diane Tomooka is a Regional Master, not a Sectional Master as previously reported. Sorry for the error.

70+% GAMES: Frank Bartlett & Betty McClellan 73.37%; Stephen Aucello - Kevin Cwayna , 71.43%, Lois Abramson & Earl Van Der Vord, 71.15%; Bob Goodman & Bob Lavery, 70.03%. Nice playing! Those 70%ers are tough to come by.

THIS MONTH AT THE CLUB: This month from Monday, Oct. 2 until Sunday, Oct. 9 will be a week of Sectionally Rated Games – regular schedule, regular prices. The monthly Team Game will be on Monday evening, Oct. 16 at 7pm. It also will be Sectionally Rated and will pay 5% Gold points up to a quarter of a point. Starting Monday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 29 there will be District 23 Silver-Point Sectional Tournament at Clubs. Again it will be the regular schedule, regular prices (but no discounts).

LESSONS: Just a reminder that on Noon on Tuesdays there are the continuing FREE NLM lessons – a gift to the club from the Unit. Also remember that Bob Mault has started a BRIDGE PLUS game on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. For more information, see Bob Mault or ask at the club.

LONG BEACH SECTIONAL: An early reminder that our LB Sectional will be held on November 10, 11 & 12 at the LB Bridge Center – not too soon to start lining up your partners.

GET WELL: We were sorry to hear that Carol Hall broke her hip. Hope to see her back at the club soon. Suzie Hand also had a fall and was having some vision problems but that was softened by the arrival of a new granddaughter. Get well soon to each of you and congratulations to John, Suzie and Uncle Corey on the new arrival.

ETC: Yes, it is true. The LB Bridge Center is for sale. Interested parties should contact the club directly. We can’t imagine anyone but George cooking all that wonderful food!
