UNIT GAME Sunday, March 19

Lunch at 1pm – Game at 1:30 pm

MARCH UNIT GAME: Extra points! That’s one of the benefits of playing in the Unit Game and this month on Sunday, March 19, you will have a chance to get them if you play in the Unit Game (and you play well) Lunch at 1pm and game at 1:30.

JANUARY UNIT GAME RESULTS: Seventeen tables vied for points. Winners were: 1st, Stephen Lowe & Sandra Pickering; 2nd, Peggy Waite & Dann Habberfield; 3rd, Yas Takeda & Subba Ravipudi; tied for 4th and 5th, Jan Wagner & Bill Cornwell and Jon Yinger & Earl VanDerVord. There were not enough tables for a NLM section so we will only report the top three Flt C winners: 1st, Kay Tseng & George Norman, 2nd, Ruth White & Sue Sood and 3rd, Ida Wolff & Maruxa Cargill. Jan Wagner and Merlin Hansen hosted the yummy luncheon.

NEW STATUS & NEW MEMBERS: Lots of new players this month to extend a warm welcome. Kris Williamson, Charles Wynn, Don Dufford, John Kirk and Charlotte Korb have joined our unit. Our newest Junior Master is Tom Wright. Anita Padgett is a new Sectional Master. Lou Greene and Pritzi Lembi are new Regional Masters. Darlene Sluder is a new NABC Master. Steve Sulzby has reached the Bronze Life Master and John Hand became a Silver Life Master in the last reporting period. Congratulations to all for your new statuses.

70+% GAMES: Frank Seipp & Miranda Kwan posted a 71.90% game and Verna Baccus and Bernie Garbose scored an even 70%.

THIS MONTH AT THE CLUB: District 23 Silver Point Sectional at Clubs starts Monday, March 6 through Sunday, March 12 – regular prices, no discounts. The monthly Stratified Open Team Game is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Monday, March 6. The ACBLMembership Game is on Thursday, March 16 at 12:30. Check the schedule for the ongoing class on Conventions on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm and Supervised Play on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30. Both are bargains and can help you sharpen your skills.

MAZATLáN: As usual, we have a huge group of players who take off for Mexico (sun, fun…bridge) and as usual, do us proud. Tybie Becker and her daughter, Andrea Sigmund won the Mazatlán 2006 Bridge Club Trophy. Way to go, girls! Big masterpoint winners at the Mazatlan Tournament were, John & Suzanne Hand; George Thompson & Donna Wenberg, Bob and Pat Turawsick, Sue Fardette & Vince Remedios, Dorothy and Leo Arko, Pam Kirkner and Bob Lavery, Delores Backlund & Bob Goodman, Lynn & Curtis Johnson, Martha & Phil Shuster, Nick & Shirley Thomas, Diane & Dennis Schmitz, Heidi Current, Bev Harmsen, Jean Matz, Greg Leach, Doris Richardson, Grace Byrd and Pat Tierney. Maxine Montgomery says, “These LB players made a triumphant showing over players from all over the USA and Canada. Maybe the margaritas were a factor!”

THIS AND THAT: Go ask Tom Skidmore for his autograph – he’s a t.v. star. Seems you can see him on t.v. in the new Toyota Prius commercial. Our players never cease to amaze me the diverse things they are up to besides bridge.

LB players who did well at the Buena Park Regional Tournament were: Fern & Hank Dunbar, Kay Tseng & George Norman who took a first place in Knockouts. In another Knockout, Bill Brooks, Jan Wagner, Tom Ludwig & Carol Murakoshi also took a first place. In the Swiss Team event, the team of Pritzi Lembi, Jose Rodriguez, Mary St. Julien & Harry O’Neil scored and collected 4.95 Gold Points. Great going! You did us proud!
