JUNE
UNIT GAME: Our Unit game this month is a Charity Game. The Unit Charity is the LB
WomenShelter. Please try to make it to this game to support this worthwhile
charity.
CLUB OWNERSHIP NEWS: Two of our players,
APRIL
UNIT GAME (Awards Day) RESULTS: There were twenty tables in two sections that played in the
Unit Game – Awards Day.
NEW
STATUS & NEW MEMBERS: Jim
Devey has achieved Club Master
status. Pritzi Lembi is the newest NABC
Master. Not a lot of change for the month until we read the report a little
further and – Wow! – we had two players who reached the Gold Life Member status
this reporting period, Irwin Bender and Diane Lynch. Congratulations to them
and the other players that are “movin on up” that bridge ladder of success.
70+% GAMES through
5/9:
Mark Itabashi and Orrilla Blanpied had a
73.15% game. Monica & Paul Honey scored a 71.95% game. And in the May STaC,
Jon Yinger & Rich Wasser had a 71.13% for 1st O/A on Tuesday afternoon and
Mary Schefter & Lois Abramson had a 73.18% on Monday afternoon for 2nd O/A
– those are Western Regional scores, folks! Great playing!!
In April there were
88 games and/or sections of games that we counted – all of varying size games
from small to big. There were only a handful of 70+% games scored. Makes you
realize why we make it a separate paragraph because it is significant
when you score one of those big games.
THIS
MONTH AT THE CLUB: The
World-Wide Bridge Contest is
scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at 12:30. It’s sectionally rated – half red,
half black points and the card fees will be $10. The monthly Stratified Open Team Game will be at 7:00
pm on Monday, June 11. On June 12 at the 4:15 game it will be an ACBL Membership Game. There will be
another ACBL Membership Game on
Friday, June 15 at 4:15. Both games are the “dinner” games. On Sunday, June 17
the Unit Game at 1:30 is a Charity Game benefiting
the LB WomenShelter, our charity.
THIS
& THAT: Steve Sulzby reported that in early May in the B/C/D Swiss Team event in the West Los Angeles, he and
his team that included Mark Tang, Matt Leung and Rick Traylor tied for 1st. He also told us the team of Kay Tseng, Sue
Sood, George Norman, and Sherry Troeger finished 4th. Quite a good showing for
our LB players.
GET WELL &
CONDOLENCES: We were
sorry to hear of Mary Graves passing. Our condolences to her family and
friends. We are happy to tell you that after “flatlining” while in the hospital
to check out some chest pains, Sibyl Slutsky luckily had angioplasty that
appears to have solved the problem. Her husband, Larry, says that an email
about symptoms of having a heart attack, prompted Sibyl to seek medical
attention. So be careful just deleting those many emails you get. In this case,
an email message saved a life! And welcome back to the living, Sibyl.
