UNIT GAME: This month’s Unit Game will be the same playing format as
usual. The big difference is it will be a POT
LUCK for the luncheon. Everyone loves a "pot luck" as our annual
Holiday Potluck has proven year after year so now’s your chance to find your
favorite recipe, make it and bring it to the club to share for the unit game. The
lunch will be at 1 pm and game time will be at 1:30 so you may want to get
there a few minutes early to put your food on the table – and get past the line that forms for the chow!
DECEMBER
UNIT GAME RESULTS: Twenty-three
tables in two sections played in the December Unit Game. Overall winners were:
1st, Steve Sulzby & Michael Ventri; 2nd, Dann Habberfield &
NEW STATUS
& NEW MEMBERS: Claudette Barrack,
Michael Daley, Paul Langerman and Judith Winn are new members of our unit. Welcome! Paul Langerman also became our
newest Junior Master. Lalit Vora
gained Club Master status. Dianne
Osterstock is our newest new Regional
Master. A good start to the new year! Congratulations!
70+% GAMES:
In the reporting period 12/12/06 – 1/12/07,
three pairs hit the 70+% mark. Cayce Blanchard & George Welsh came in with
a 70.83% game. Bev Harmsen & Ron Cunningham had a 71.0% game and Mark
Itabashi & John Farr scored a 71.99% game. If you had a 70%er and we missed
it, call me and we will report it. We did miss one in November. Sue Fardette
& Vince Remedios scored at 70.14% game on 11/29. Great playing to all of you! We also failed to note that the 72.92% game
in December scored by Michael Daley & Earl Van Der Vord was in the Saturday
Jackpot game. So in addition to the nice score, they also scored $240 to split between them. Since the Jackpot game has
sometimes gone years without being won, an easy oversight but my apologies for
failing to acknowledge them.
THIS MONTH
AT THE CLUB: The ACBL International Fund game ($9 card fee) kicks off the month on
Sat., Feb. 3 at 12:30. There will be a Junior
Fund Game on February 7 – both sessions. The Unit generously voted to pay the extra dollar required for the
afternoon game and the Club owners will pay the extra dollar for the evening
game. The monthly Stratified Open
Team Game will be on Monday, Feb 12 at 7 pm. The last special game this
month will be the ACBL-Wide Senior Game
on Monday morning, Feb. 26 at 9:30 am.
CONDOLENCES
& GET WELL: We heard from Bruce
Stark that his partner Carroll Simons had passed away in Nov. We also saw a
notice on the bulletin board that Jeanne Plocher passed away this past summer.
We send our condolences to both families. Incidentally,
we haven’t seen Bruce Stark lately!
We have reports of several people
“under the weather” and hope by the time this is published, this will be old news. Frank Seipp has been ill, Jo
Daigle's husband is ill, Doris Richardson is ill and Irwin Bender's wife is
recuperating from an auto accident.
UNIT NEWS: Steve Sulzby welcomed the newest board member, Sue
Fardette. Committee chairs have been announced for the coming year and can be
found in the minutes posted at the club. They have some ambitious plans for the
coming year. Personally, this reporter would like to see the roster available
again. How about it, Unit Board Members?
THIS AND THAT: At the Palm Springs Regional, several of our players
shined. Fern & Hank Dunbar and Pritzi Lembi took first place in two KO
events with partners Diane Black and Jose Rodriguez. Great playing! (Hank
earned his LM in that event but we won’t be reporting that until next month
when it shows up on the official
