UNIT GAME: The 13th will be a lucky day for many of our players. It will be the day that they are honored for their good play for the year – whether at the club (Ace of Clubs) or at tournaments (Mini-McKenney). Note the times for this game are different than usual. They expect a crowd for this game so the points that can be earned should be significant. The Unit will continue their NLM’s play for free in the Unit Game. There will be a “special” thirteen table NLM Section. It will be on the first-come, first-served basis – you must show up at the desk to get the free play, no call-in or pre-reservations. Once the thirteen tables are filled, latecomers will be assigned to tables in the Open Game and pay regular card fees. The Unit hopes those players will enjoy the games so much they will come play on other days.
FEBRUARY UNIT GAME RESULTS: Twenty-three tables in two sections made up the February unit game. Overall results were: 1st, Robert Gish & Diane Starbuck; 2nd, Harold Task & T.S. Chernuchin; 3rd, Lynn & Curtis Johnson; tied for 4th/5th, John Wong & Tony Zee and Bea & John Bralliar. Flight C honors went to: 1st, Lynn & Curtis Johnson; 2nd, Penny Wentworth & Eva Mroz and 3rd, Tom Ludwig & Linda Renkus. The “potluck” was enjoyed by all. Congratulations winners!

Lunch will be at noon, awards at 12:30 and game at 1 p.m. Starting Monday, April 14 will be a week of Championship Games ending with the Sunday, April 20, 1 p.m. game. The games will be the regular schedule, regular prices. Included in that week is the monthly team game on Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m. A little earlier this year – it’s usually the first week in May – the LB Bridge Club will celebrate their 26th Anniversary on Wednesday, April 30. Dinner will be at 6:30, game at 7 p.m. It will be a sectionally rated Championship game. All these games will be extra points.
ROSTER: After several false starts over the past year or so, the roster should be available by the time you read this. The information contained in this roster was taken from the ACBL records as of April 13, 2008 with no changes. If there is any incorrect information, we suggest you correct your records with the ACBL so that the next time it is printed (hopefully yearly), your information will be correct.
UNIT VS. CLUB: We get a lot of questions about the
difference between the Unit and the Club. The ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) has 25 districts. The ACBL sets and enforces the rules, issues
and keeps track of Masterpoints, runs the national tournaments and sanctions
the district and local tournaments and the clubs in the
The Unit DOES NOT own the bridge clubs. The clubs are privately owned organizations that are sanctioned to run games and issue ACBL Masterpoints.
COLUMNIST CHANGE: This will be the last column written by this reporter. We have been writing this for some time (our second stint as the reporter) and need to devote more time to our full-time job as a Realtor. Thank you to all the “reporters” out there that kept us current on bridge news. For those whom we pleased with our writing, we thank you. For those we’ve displeased, we apologize. There was never an intention to slight or hurt anyone.
We are happy to announce that
